The estate features many unique features and buildings to explore during your visit to the Park Hotel Virginia.
Three Boat Houses were constructed for the estate to keep the pleasure and fishing boats safe and to allow the family to easily embark. The Fairy Boat House is the oldest and built as a miniature castle.
The little island approximately 10m from the shoreline was actually man made. Built during the 16th century by early Christian farmers the Crannogs provided safe shelter for communities and livestock. Take the Boat House Walk for the best views.
The sunken gardens retain the formal Victorian geometric designs with central path and centrepiece gazebo. Sheltered on all sides, relax in the warm afternoon sunshine with a cool drink.
This holy well is blessed in honour of Irelands Patron Saint. Naturally occurring, our ancestors saw the spring waters as miracles and the waters thought to provide great healing and fertility. It was once common to visit the well on St Patricks Day to pray.
Built to store ice sawn from the frozen river, the Ice Pit was built as part of the original estate complex and was used until the 1920’s. The charming Stone Bridge dates from the 1800’s and was used to transport the ice over the river to the pit.
